Many localities in China, in a number of domestic internet service providers are unable to establish contact with China’s DNS servers which leads to millions of Chinese internet users not able to access online for hours.

According to the reports, the outage was due to an error with the nation’s generic top level domain that redirect users to 65.49.2.178. The IP address is known to be located in California and belong to a company: Sophidea Webhosting that doesn’t appear to be currently in business. The company has hosted  site which are blocked in China but the site has a software to bypass online censorship.
