intelIntel has announced at the Cloud Computing Expo in New York that they have launched a Solid State Drive (SSD) DC S3500 Series that is designed for web hosting, data center virtualization, and cloud computing. This series is meant to replace the traditional hard disk drives.

SSD DC S3500 offers storage options with increased IO performance, lower total cost of ownership, and reliability over traditional hard disk drives. It has sequential speeds of up to 500 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 450 MB/s. It has a tight distribution of inputs and outputs with lower maximum latencies.

The new capacities ranges from 80 to 800GB in both 2.5 and 1.8 inch form factors. Price ranges from $115 for 1.8-inch 80GB drive and $979 for a 2.5 inch 800GB drive
