Mega, a cloud storage service provider announced that they have opened a New Zealand storage node. This node will serve the company’s Australian, Fijan, New Caledonian, and Papua New Guinea customers.

Mega also noted that all transfers from or to the customer’s own account originate or terminate in New Zealand, API requests will still have to travel to Europe and back but the metadata is stored.

Its geographic data redundancy policy also applies to the new node which means, all data is stores in the New Zealand cluster will be mirrored to Europe. Mega also warns that New Zealand customers are barred from storing sensitive data offshore.
